- You are not limited to the categories used above. Try creating categories from something the kids are learning in school, such as vocabulary words, spelling words, (you could give an extra bonus point if they can give the definition or correct spelling) people in US History, Science words...you customize it however you’d like!
- Now it’s time to begin! Choose a letter either by randomly placing your pencil on the newspaper (with your eyes closed so there's no cheating) or by picking a Scrabble tile letter or rolling a letter dice. The letter is announced and everyone begins to madly write! Let’s say the letter is “A.” The object is to try to be the first one to fill up every column with a word beginning with “A.” The first person to finish says, “Stop!”
- Everyone puts down their pencils (if you were in the middle of a word you are allowed to finish writing it) and the scoring begins.
- 1 point is given to each player that has the same word. 2 points are given to players with unique words from everyone else. 3 points are given to a player if they are the only one to have a word in a specific category. See example of scoring below.
Example of scoring: Let's say 2 players have the word "apple" under the plants section; They would receive 1 point each. Another player has the word "artichoke" which no one else has. They would receive 2 points. Now if only one player has a word under the "countries" section, say…”Algeria”…they would receive 3 points. Have Fun!
